Hyundai Repair: 2000 Hyundai Accent Rear Brake Drum Removal, parking brake cable, spindle nut

Question
How do I get the rear drums off my 2000 Hyundai Accent? I took the screw out of the front of the drum, and removed the spindle nut. Do I need a puller to pop the drum off? I cant see any way to release the star wheel (do they have one?). Help!

Answer
The drum will come off with the spindle nut still in place, but the drum is often rusted to the hub.  On most vehicles (not just Hyundai) the drum must be struck with a hammer to break it free.

If the issue is that the rust ledge on the drum won't clear the shoes, you'll need to remove the console and loosen the parking brake cable adjusting nut to gain additional clearance.
