Hyundai Repair: hyundai sonata 2004 6 cyl., hyundai sonata, timing belts

Question
its time to change the drive belt hyundai wants 350.00 to do it is it somewthing i can do myself

Answer
Most do-it-yourselfers would be able to replace the drive (serpentine) belt.  It's a simple matter of releasing the belt tension, slipping the belt off a pulley, and removing the tensioner to get the belt out.

I doubt the estimate is for the drive belt, however.  You're probably inquiring about the timing belt.  While $350 is a horrible price for the drive belt, it's a pretty good price for a timing belt.

If you've replaced timing belts before, I doubt you'll have trouble with this one.  If you've never done it but are mechanically inclined, you might want to give this one a try.  But I'd strongly recommend having someone with experience with timing belts nearby or with you to guide you along.

If you'd like to know what's involved in replacing the timing belt, you can see the shop manual at www.hmaservice.com.  You'll need to register for a free account, and the site requires Internet Explorer.
