Hyundai Repair: High engine RPMs while idling, throttle position sensor, air flow sensor

Question
I have a 2000 Elantra 5 sp with 109,000 miles. I have maintained this car well and it has treated me well. I recently had the belts replaced as well as the air flow sensor and transmission mounts. Now, while in neutral, the engine sometimes revs and idles at 2000 RPM's instead of the usual 900. This doesn't hapen all the time, only occasionally and sometimes the engine stalls out after this.  Is this anything major or worth fixing? I'm not sure how much more money I want to put into this car. I had the timing belt replaced at 60,000 miles as well.

Answer
I'd suspect a problem with the throttle position sensor.  If you're a do-it-yourselfer, the price of the part is probably low enough that it's worth considering just purchasing a new one and putting it on to see if it resolves the issue.

If you don't think it's worth it to put the sensor on or take the car in to the shop, it's not likely there will be any significant consequences.  If the problem is with the throttle position sensor and the problem gets worse, the car may eventually become difficult to drive.  But you can always have it checked at that time if it occurs.
