Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Sante Fe Error Code, hyundai sante fe, emission system

I took our 03 Sante Fe v6 in for an oil change. On the way home the check engine light came on. The error code is P0446 which I now know is the Evap. Emission system. (After we took it back and they ran a $30.00 diagnosis) The light has since gone out. Could the shop have caused the light to come on in some way or was it just coincidence?

P0446 indicates excessive vacuum in the fuel vapor management system.  There's nothing that would be done during an oil change that would cause this code to set, so I think you're looking at a coincidence.

It's possible the problem occurred due to overfilling the fuel tank, causing fuel to enter the vapor system.  Since the lamp has gone out, we know that the problem has been absent for the past three drive cycles at least.  I'd recommend disconnecting your battery for ten seconds to clear the code from the computer.  If the code then returns (check engine lamp will come on), you'll need to have your vapor management system diagnosed.
