Hyundai Repair: 2004 Sante Fe 2.7L V-6, hot rodder, sante fe

Question
I'm a hot-rodder from way back and do a quality resto on classic muscle. I have a Sante fe that I adore. Reliable, and uninspiring. The gas mileage STINKS, and since I commute 100mile/day, I need better. I'd like to bump the ignition timing up 4-5 degrees to enhance low RPM torque, and maybe a decent set of exhaust headers. I figure the factory computer will adapt to the headers and the fuel tables should be OK as-is. But how can I bump timing? Is there a reluctor or timing index someplace that has some adjustability in it? What's the procedure? Thx!

Answer
The timing is not adjustable.  The ECM controls timing based on input it receives from the knock sensors.

Also, you'll probably set a check engine lamp if you install headers.  If you look at the exhaust manifolds, you'll see that there's a catalytic converter in each.  If you replace them with headers, the ECM will notice that the converters are missing.
