Hyundai Repair: 95 Hyundai scoupe, hyundai scoupe, intake manifold gasket

Question
When I turn the ignition on the car revs up to over 40,000 rmps with no acceleration. I talked to autozone, they said maybe a air idle sensor but they can't get one.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance.

Answer
I'm presuming you mean 4,000 RPM.  First, check the throttle plate to be sure it's closed and the throttle cable to be sure it has slack.  If that's okay, take a wrench and whack the idle actuator.  If the idle returns to normal after you do this, you need a new idle actuator.  If you still have a problem, check for large vacuum leaks, such as a broken intake manifold gasket.
