Hyundai Repair: inside rear view mirror, rear view mirror, gold screw

Question
Hey HT,

While removing the crash pad in my 2001 Sonata GLS,  I accidentally knocked my inside rear view mirror off the windshield. The base is still on the windshield. On the back of the mirror you can see a gold screw protruding out. I've tried to pop it back into the metal pronged bracket that is in the base, but I can't seem to get it to snap back in. Can you help me?  Should I attempt to take the base off?  Please let me know...Thanks

Answer
I believe the base that's on the windshield is actually two pieces.  Look closely before attempting to separate them.  I believe the outer piece slides toward the base of the windshield as it comes out of the piece that's actually attached to the windshield.  Be very careful.  If you apply too much force, you can crack or break the windshield.

Once you have the pieces on the windshield separated, you can remove the screw and reassemble the one piece of the base onto the mirror, and reinstall the mirror onto the piece that's still on the windshield.
