Hyundai Repair: 2000 elantra stalls, needlenose pliers, fuel pressure

Question
my elantra has been having a hard time starting, it starts with some effort but then only runs until it warms up and stalls.  I have to leave it sit for a couple of hours before before it will start again.  My engine light comes on when it stalls but goes off after starting until it is warm and stalls again.  Any idea what might cause this?

Answer
My primary suspicion is a weak/worn fuel pump.  Check your fuel pressure while the car is running.  If your fuel pressure is below 35 PSI, replace the fuel pump.  If okay, briefly pinch off the return hose with needlenose pliers.  The fuel pressure should go up to about 90 PSI.  If it's significantly below that, replace the fuel pump.
