Hyundai Repair: 2001 xg300 air conditioning, compressor clutch, fuse box

Question
QUESTION: I have a 2001 XG300. the system is fully charged but the compressor does not run. It started cutting out intermittently but now does not come on. I believe it is the pressure switch, but can not find it. Where is it located? Thank you for your help.
ANSWER: The triple switch is located on top of the receiver/drier, which is on the right side of the condensor just to the left of the headlamp.

I will say, however, that the symptoms you describe are exactly consistent with a gradually lowering refrigerant level.  How did you determine the system was fully charged?

QUESTION: a guage on either port reads about 100psi. it will not take any more from a small can of r134, iguess that the pressure has equalized between the system and the can.

Answer
Okay.  Good.  100 PSI is a little high for rest pressure, but it's within the range that the system should at least start up.

The electrical workings of this a/c system are complicated, so I recommend that you register for a free account at www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer).  You can look at a schematic of the system there.

I'd recommend starting with the following basic checks:
-- Check the A/C compressor and EGR fuses in the underhood fuse box.
-- Check for power at the compressor wire (with a/c on and car running).  If you have power and can see that the compressor is not running, you'll need a new compressor clutch or compressor.
-- Swap the A/C relay with another identical relay.  If possible, the best option would be a relay for something you can verify works, implying you're switching in a known good relay.
