Hyundai Repair: 2003 Santa Fe 2.4L egr valve, santa fe 2, valve question

Question
QUESTION: Where is the egr valve physically located on the 2003 Santa Fe 2.4L w/manual trans & a/c? Do you know of a web link w/pics? All I can find is the part sellers online catalogs. Thanks.
ANSWER: The EGR valve is located on the bottom portion of the throttle body.  You can view not only the shop manuals, but also technical service bulletins, schematics, and other information at www.hmaservice.com.  You'll need to register for a free account, and the site requires Internet Explorer.  The best picture I could find there was a drawing of the intake manifold components in the shop manual.

QUESTION: Now that I have the egr changed, will the computer reset itself & turn off the check engine light? If yes, how soon, if no, I guess I have to get a shop to clear it & check for any other codes/problems. It has been coming on & going off for several weeks prior to me having the code read at Autozone that indicated the egr valve was the problem. Thanks again!

Answer
The computer will turn out the check engine lamp after three successive pass results on the tests of the problem in question.  The EGR system isn't one of the first tests to run, and in my experience it takes at least ten to fifteen miles of driving for the test to run.  If you do primarily short trip driving, it may take quite some time for the lamp to turn off.  Even after the lamp turns off, the code will remain for a longer period of time.

My suggestion is to clear the lamp and stored diagnostic trouble codes by disconnecting the battery for five seconds.  If the problem still isn't fixed, the lamp will reilluminate when the test fails two consecutive times.  If that occurs, have the diagnostic trouble codes rechecked.  This procedure will give you faster feedback about the effectiveness of the repair and will eliminate any possibility of having codes present for problems which were already repaired.
