Hyundai Repair: Alternator replacement, hyundai tiburon, 2003 hyundai tiburon

Question
I have a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon with 2.7L V6 engine. I would like step-by-step procedure for replacing the alternator and or advice on things to watch out for.

Answer
Probably the easiest way to do this job is to unbolt the alternator and then pull it up through the top to get it out.  But since I haven't yet done this job on a 2.7 Tiburon, I cannot guarantee everything will fit.  So take a good look around beforehand to be sure it appears my procedure is feasible.

1.  Disconnect the battery.
2.  Pry the center row of slats and the Hyundai logo out of the engine cover.
3.  Remove the engine cover.
4.  Remove the underhood trim coverings on the right (passenger) side of the engine compartment.
5.  Release the drive belt tension and slip the belt off one of the pulleys.
6.  Remove the 12mm nut holding the main charging wire to the lug on the alternator.
7.  Disconnect the alternator electrical connector.

(Steps 8 and 9 may not be possible from above the car.  If not, you'll need remove the right side engine splash shield to access these bolts.)

8.  Remove the alternator upper mounting bolt.
9.  Loosen the 14mm nut on the lower alternator mount.
10.  Slide the alternator out of its mounting bracket and remove.
11.  Transfer the lower mounting bolt to the new alternator.
12.  Place the alternator in the mounting bracket.
13.  Install the upper mounting bolt and tighten.
14.  Tighten the lower mounting bolt nut.
15.  Reattach the main charging wire to the lug.
16.  Reconnect the alternator electrical connector.
17.  Reinstall the drive belt.
18.  Reconnect the battery.
19.  Reinstall the engine compartment covers.
