Hyundai Repair: power window motor tiburon, 10mm nuts, 2003 hyundai tiburon

Question
how to change out a window motor in a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon driver side after removing the door panel if i could get some help that would be great thanks

Answer
Replacing the motor is much easier if you can lower the window.  Once you have the door panel off, remove the plastic covers, hook up the window switch, and try to lower the window while whacking on the motor with a wrench.  If the window will lower, lower it to a point where the bolts attaching it are accessible through holes in the door.

Once you have the window loose from the regulator, pull the glass up and block it there or remove the glass.  Then remove the seven 10mm bolts (two top, two bottom, three by motor) holding the regulator in place.  Unplug the motor and remove the window regulator through one of the large holes in the door panel.  Then separate the motor from the regulator and install the new motor onto the regulator.

If you cannot get the window to lower, remove the three 10mm nuts holding by the motor and unplug the motor.  Then try to wrestle the motor in front of a hole where you can separate it from the regulator.  (If I recall correctly, I've done this once and it's very difficult to do this way.)  Once you've got the motor separated, the window will be able to be moved up and down and you can remove the regulator per the instructions above for easier reassembly.  If not, you'll need to wrestle the new motor into place in the regulator through the hole in the door panel.

When separating the motor from the regulator, be very careful.  I did this incorrectly once and the regulator spool came apart tangling the cable beyond repair.  It's probably a good idea to have the new motor present for comparison to see how it separates from the regulator.  It's not necessarily intuitive just from looking at the assembly on the car.
