Hyundai Repair: 2003 Hyundai Tiburon idling issue, hyundai tiburon, 2003 hyundai tiburon

Question
Thanks for your follow up.  I'll mention to my mechanic.  So you don't think that this noise has anything to do with my clutch or flywheel?  I know that it's hard to diagnose without actually hearing it, but as i said, the noise was there before the new clutch.  Thanks.

-----Question-----
When in neutral, car sounds like a soft deisel.  No movement in Tacometer.  Just had the clutch replaced, flywheel machined.  Any idea what this could be from?  It's driving me nuts!
-----Answer-----
I wanted to post a follow-up since your feedback indicated some confusion about the subject of my reply.  I'm not referring to the timing belt which links the camshaft to the crankshaft.  I'm referring to a chain which is under the valve cover and drives one camshaft off the other.  Although replacing the timing belt at the recommended time is a good idea, it's very unlikely that will address your noise.

Without hearing the noise, it's difficult to say, but I've seen a few cases where the timing chain under the valve cover joining the two camshafts wears and knocks into the chain guide, making a noise similar to what you describe.

Answer
The "diesel" description is what led me to think of the timing chain.  I can't think of any reason the clutch or flywheel would make that type noise.  Additionally, if it was there prior to the clutch being replaced, it's not likely to be coming from the clutch or flywheel.

But it's also possible I don't have a good idea what the car sounds like.  An in-person inspection will be far better than anything I can offer over the internet.
