Hyundai Repair: coolant leak - 03 Santa Fe, radiator hoses, upper radiator hose

Question
2003 Santa Fe 2.4L

There is a small coolant leak at the point of where the upper radiator hose connects to the thermostat housing. I was wondering if this is a common occurance with these cars?  If so, is the problem due to a weakening of the hose clamp, cracked housing, or a bad hose?  It is about time to change out the coolant so I'll get a better look at it then...  As far as the clamps go, should I just stick with the sping clamp or use a hose clamp I can manually tighten?

Does Hyundai have any recomendations as regards to replacing both radiator hoses and thermostat at the specified coolant change interval or just change them when needed?

Answer
This is a fairly rare occurrence on the 2.4L engine.  On other engines, when it occurs, there's usually a significant amount of crust built up on the hose and the housing.

I'd recommend replacing the hose, scraping the crust off the neck and cleaning with sandpaper, and installing new screw-type clamps.  There's no recommendation to replace the thermostat or hoses at a particular time or mileage, and most hoses last quite a long time.
