Hyundai Repair: 2000 Tiburon Transmission, metal pieces, tiburon

Question
The transmission in our 2000 Tiburon (automatic) was making a whining noise.  We had the transmission serviced and there were some small metal pieces on the magnet.  Do we need a new transmission?

Answer
It's difficult to say.  Some final gear whine is normal, and transmissions exhibit this in varying degrees.  But if the noise is coming from the bearings, then there's a serious issue.  Similarly, a small amount of metal on the magnets is normal as well.  I'd recommend taking the car to the dealer and having them check it.

If the noise indicates a problem in the transmission, you should replace the transmission with an already remanufactured unit.
