Hyundai Repair: 2000 Hyundai Accent 4 cyc., oil pressure loss, oil pressure sender

Question
when coming to a slowing stop the oil light comes on then flickers and stays on until i give it gas then it goes off. what could cause this problem?

Answer
This sounds like a low oil pressure issue.

First, check your oil level.  If low, top off and check for leaks.

Next, replace the oil pressure sender.  It's not likely the issue, but it's cheap and will tell you immediately if the oil pressure sender is the issue.

Presuming the problem is still present, try changing the oil, using a factory filter and name brand appropriate weight oil.  This will ensure you're using good product and hopefully eliminate any possibility that the oil or filter was the issue.

Presuming the problem is still present, the problem is somewhere in the engine.  If the engine has sludge, it's possible the pickup may be obscured or the drain holes may be too clogged for the oil to go back to the oil pan.  It's possible that the oil pump is worn or the pressure valve is sticking in the bore.  In that case, you'd need to replace the oil pump.  And it's also possible that you have oil pressure loss due to bearing wear in the engine.
