Hyundai Repair: 2000 Elantra Idle, throttle position sensor, hyundai elantra

Question
I have a 2000 Hyundai Elantra and I am experiancing my RPM jumping at times. When driving, the car runs fine. No power loss or anything else but when I come to a stop, either my RPMs jump high then bounce down to regular speed. IF I tap the gas peddal, it helps dropping it. Then there are times when it drops very low below 500 RPMs. This doesn't happen all the time but when it does, I know it shouldn't be this way. Any ideas and sollutions to help me with this problem?  Thanks
Joe B.

Answer
Most likely, you're having an issue with your throttle position sensor.  Check your ECM (engine control module) diagnostic codes.  If you have a code for the throttle position sensor (TPS), don't hesitate to replace it.  If you have codes other than for the TPS, follow-up and let me know what they are so I can determine whether they may be related.  If you have no codes, you can check the throttle position sensor by probing the signal wire and checking the signal voltage while you move the connector around a little (do not unplug).  If the signal voltage changes significantly while you're doing this, replace the TPS.
