Hyundai Repair: 2000 Hyundai Elantra gone mad!, slow blow fuse, hyundai elantra

Question
The problem started when I was driving 65 mph and I suddenly heard a "pop" and it was like I lost my last gear.  The RPM's went up to about 5000.  I slowed down and drove the car at 45mph five miles back to my house.  When we started checking things out we have also found out that the power windows are not working, (power locks are), the blower is not working, the headlights and highbeams are not working (the parking lights, turn signals and hazard lights are.)  We have checked the fuse box and we are getting power to those fuses and the fuses are good.  Any suggestions?

Thanks, Melanie

Answer
In each of the items you specify, the fuse you checked only powers the coil side of the relay for those devices.  The main power for them comes from the slow blow fuses in the underhood fuse box.  Each of the slow blow fuses in question is powered by the main 100A slow blow fuse.

Start by checking the main 100A slow blow fuse.  If that's blown, you'll need to replace it.  You'll also need to check the alternator and the main wire going to the alternator for a possible problem that would make the fuse blow.
