Hyundai Repair: manual 5 speed trans hyundai accent 06, hyundai accent, gear teeth

Question
This trans has a up to the left for reverse and it don't always go into gear
on the 1st try. If you try and it slips out then push in the clutch and try
again it works fine.

Answer
The primary issue with selecting reverse is typically that the vehicle is not moving.  This means that the gear teeth may not be properly positioned to mesh together.  There are typically two ways that the gear teeth can be moved in an attempt to align them:

1.  Move the vehicle a small amount either by letting it coast or by selecting a gear and moving it; or
2.  Select another gear or two and reselect reverse.

The issue you describe is a characteristic of every manual transmission I've ever operated, regardless of the vehicle the transmission is in.
