Hyundai Repair: Hyundai Accent Ireland(2000) Engine failure, camshaft timing, hyundai accent

Question
Hi,
while stopped at lights the engine kinda gently shut down.  When trying to start it doesn't make the normal noise but rather a 'wheezing' noise - and doesn't start.  Any help is greatly appreciated.

Answer
I suspect the "wheezing" you hear may be the engine cranking without normal compression.  This occurs when the timing belt fails.  In this case, the engine will crank faster than normal.  To check, remove the upper timing belt cover and check the camshaft timing.

But since I cannot hear the noise, it's possible you could be referring to something else as well.  If you say the engine is wheezing because the engine is cranking slowly, you could be looking at a low voltage issue.  In that case, you should check the alternator and battery for proper operation.
