Hyundai Repair: Hyundia tibuton - auto transmission, throttle position sensor, vacuum leak

Question
AT is "slipping" or not changing after running for 1hr. at 60 and then slowing for traffic. Alos it recently started to idle at 2000rpm in park. What are the possibiliities??

Answer
Hi, Jay.  Based on your description, I'm not convinced the transmission is doing what is referred to as "slipping."  It sounds like the transmission computer may be detecting a problem and putting the transmission in failsafe.

Please help me with the following information:
1.  It sounds like your transmission is stuck in a particular gear.  If this is incorrect, please describe as specifically as you can what it is doing.  When doing this, avoid using technical terms like slipping and report those things you can feel/hear/smell/see etc.  For example, you could report that the transmission won't shift into fourth gear, or that the rpm's seem abnormally high under certain conditions.
2.  Can you tell me what gear it won't change out of?
3.  Does the car accelerate normally?
4.  Does it drive normally above certain speeds?
5.  Does it act like it's in neutral when it isn't?
6.  Is the check engine lamp on?

For your idle issue, I suspect that you may have a throttle position sensor problem or a vacuum leak.  Usually, this will cause the check engine lamp to illuminate.
