Hyundai Repair: Santa Fe winter gas mileage and oil grade, torque converter clutch, forward gears

Question
I have an '05 Santa FE 2.7 GLS I bought in July.  The truck has about 30k miles, and since this summer I have been getting about 21 mpg.  As of the past few weeks, my mileage has dropped significantly to about 13.5 mpg.  I live in Minnesota and I realize the cold weather is harsh on vehicles, but I have not had a problem like this with previous vehicles.  I recently changed my oil, can't remember right now what the new weight is, but I was thinking this could be having an effect on the mileage.  Any other ideas/suggestions?

Answer
A change in oil grade won't have that large an effect on your fuel economy.  Is there any possibility that the gas stations in your area changed the fuel blend or composition about the same time your decrease in fuel economy occurred?  Has there been any change in your driving pattern?

If the answer to both is no, then it's probably a good idea to check your vehicle to see whether anything is occurring that may lower fuel economy.
Are the brakes staying applied?
Is the toe-in set properly?
Does the engine have the normal level of performance?
Does the transmission engage all four forward gears normally?
*Does the torque converter clutch engage properly?
*Are there any engine or transmission diagnostic trouble codes?
*Do engine and transmission data appear normal?

Items marked with * will be difficult to check for a normal consumer.  If the other items check okay, and you're unable to check the * items yourself, you may wish to have a professional check the vehicle to be sure everything checks normally.
