Hyundai Repair: Elantra 2002 dashboard lights, turn signal switch, dashboard lights

Question
My apologies if this has been asked previously.

Everytime I use my turn signal, my dashboard light shuts off. It mysteriously turns back on or off again when I hit a bump. Not a problem during the day, but at night, it's dangerous. The only thing I see is my "D" drive light. Of course, if it happens everytime I hit my turn signal, I can assume a loose connection, but hey, I could be wrong. Before I spend money on repair, is there anyway I can repair it myself?

Answer
Based on your description, it's pretty much a certainty that the issue is in your lighting/turn signal switch.  Replacing the switch isn't very hard.  You'll only need a Phillips screwdriver.  Remove the three screws from the underside of the steering column covers; snap the covers loose; and remove them from the column.  Then remove the two screws holding the light switch in place, unplug the light switch and pull it out.

If you think you're capable of replacing the switch, you may want to take the old one out and have a look at it.  I had a similar circumstance and all that was wrong was that the small electrical connector inside the switch itself had come loose.  All that was necessary was to remove a cover from the switch and reconnect the connector.
