Hyundai Repair: I just got both codes P1529 and P0713, transmission control module, reader model

Question
My 2000 Accent GL Automatic has 60,000 miles on it and drives very well, and has been maintained properly.
It has a new timing belt, new wires & plugs, and it just had the transmission fluid changed. It just went down to 32 F degrees and damp, could it have triggered the codes. The car still drives fine
I know you said on 04 Aug 2006: "Answer
P1529 means that the TCM (transmission control module) has requested that the ECM (engine control module) turn on your check engine lamp.  To find the nature of the problem, the code(s) from the TCM will need to be read.  The best I can tell you without the code(s) from the TCM is that it's a transmission-related issue."
How can I get the TCM codes from the TCM with my fancy new INNOVA codeII reader Model No. 3100? It has a DTC (diagnostic trouble code) sequence identifies the causes of the check engine light coming on.
Is it a good idea to erase the codes after I write down all the codes, and see if and when the codes come back?

Answer
P0713 is a TCM code.  It indicates that the ATF sensor is reading too high a temperature.  This will occur if the sensor wiring is shorted to ground or the sensor itself is grounded.

If the transmission pan was removed during the fluid, especially if it was for the purpose of replacing the filter, I'd suspect that the temperature sensor wiring may be pinched by the pan, filter, or a bolt causing it to be shorted to ground.  If the pan wasn't removed, then this is significantly less likely.

You can clear the code to see if it returns.  Whether it returns, and how long it takes to reoccur if it does return will tell you whether this is an ongoing problem or something more intermittent.

If you determine that the issue is constant, unplug the temperature sensor at the transmission.  After you've done this, you should ordinarily return a code P0712 (low temperature error).  If you receive that code back, then the issue is inside the transmission (either the wiring inside or the temperature sensor itself).  If you still receive a P0713 after clearing with the connector unplugged, your short circuit is external to the transmission.
