Hyundai Repair: ambient temperature, fuel gauge, costly repair

Question
thankyou for replying to my first message. Actually, the trip computer says that I have a large amount of miles left to empty when I only have a 1/4 tank, like 150 miles roughly. Are there instructions in the owners manual for recalibrating? Also I read online that the rear view mirrors are supposed to tilt down when the vehicle is in reverse and that you can turn this feature on and off,do you know how this is accomplished? thanks

hello, I have recently purchased a 2001 xg300. The ambient temperature reading is always at 122 degrees F. Is there any way to correct this without a costly repair? Also the trip computer does not seem accurate as far as miles to empty. Is there any way to recalibrate this thing? Thanks

In regard to the ambient temperature problem, how costly the repair is will depend on where the problem lies.  If the ambient temperature sensor has failed, it's a simple matter to replace the sensor.  I haven't priced one of these sensors, but I cannot imagine it's all that expensive.  If the issue is in the wiring or in the control head, you should expect that it'll be rather expensive to either locate or repair the issue.

If your fuel gauge is accurate, then your trip computer should be reporting what it's designed to report.  It bases its distance to empty on the average fuel economy.  If you haven't reset the trip computer, you might want to do that to compensate for differences in your driving and the previous owner's driving.  But it should always report a lower distance to empty than actual.  Hyundai doesn't want you to actually run out of gas.

I don't recall what the trip computer controls are, but if there is a reset button, holding that in for a few seconds should reset at least the item that's currently in the display.  If you don't see anything like this, your owner's manual should tell you how to reset it.  Failing finding anything there, try disconnecting the car's battery for 5 minutes.

There are three different ways the lowering mirrors will operate, and they're controlled by the position you leave the mirror adjustment selector switch:
-- With the selector switch in the left position, the left mirror glass will tilt down
-- With the selector switch in the central position, neither mirror will tilt down
-- With the selector switch in the right position, the right mirror will tilt down.

In actuality, either the left or right position should cause both mirrors to tilt, but I don't have an XG present to play with, and I can't remember which one will cause both mirrors to tilt.  A few moments of experimenting with your car should solve this issue for you, though.
