Hyundai Repair: speed sensor???, vehicle speed sensor, santa fe gls

Question
I was driving my 2003 Santa Fe GLS on the freeway and the speedometer went down to zero than back up to 70mph. It did this several times. My SF has 62k and was just serviced at 60k. I was told this could be the speed sensor because no other gauges were affected. What do you think?

Answer
If your vehicle ran normally while this was occurring, I'd say you have at least a 95% probability that the issue is with the vehicle speed sensor or the sensor gear.  It'd be my recommendation to replace both the sensor and gear together.  The sensor is located on top of the differential of the transmission and is held in place with a 10mm bolt, and the sensor and gear will come out as an assembly.
