Hyundai Repair: 99 hyundai accent, purge valve, hyundai accent

Question
I took my car through inspection to find out that i had a large and small leak in my emissions. I replaced the purge valve which corrected the small leek but I don't know what to do to correct the large leak. Do you know?

Answer
Presuming you have a trouble code P0455, the cause would fall into one of two potential categories:

1.  There is a blockage preventing the purge valve from applying vacuum to the fuel tank.  This could be caused by a stuck closed purge valve or anywhere between the valve and the tank.

2.  There is an actual fuel vapor leak or a faulty canister close valve that won't seal the system during testing.  This could be anywhere in the fuel vapor control system past the purge control valve.

Unfortunately, I cannot tell you what to do unless I know the source of the leak.  You can check your fuel cap to be sure it's on tight and is sealing, but I suspect you've already done that.

A shop with equipment for finding evaporative system leaks should be able to find the leak for you.  There are a couple types of equipment.  One pressurizes the evaporative system and the technician listens for the leak with a sensitive electronic listening device.  Another pumps smoke into the system and the technician checks for where the smoke exits.  Once the leak is identified, a solution can be proposed.
