-----Question-----
2006 hyundia elantra/rough idle,   it has about 4k miles on it and dont matter if its in drive or nutral,it has a rough idle.  any ideas?
-----Answer-----
It could be anything affecting engine vibration, or the transmission of that vibration to the passenger compartment.  Answering the questions below will help me figure out what the issue may be.  Regardless, since this is a new vehicle, you should have the dealer address any defects under the new vehicle warranty.

1.  Has this vibration been present since the car was brand new?
2.  If you know what a misfire is, does the vibration feel like a misfire?
3.  Is the check engine lamp on?
4.  Has the vehicle been involved in a collision?
5.  How do you feel the vibration?  (e.g. feet through floorboard, seat back, hands on steering wheel, etc.)
6.  Can you tell whether the vibration has the same frequency as the engine rpm or whether it's different, higher or lower?  NO, DONT FEEL LIKE MISFIRE. NO ACCI DENT, NO ENGINE LIGHT, CAN FEEL THE ROUGH IDLE THOUGH BRAKE PEDAL AND STERRING WHEEL.. SEAMS TO EVEN OUT AFTER U GIVE IT SUM GAS. I PLAN ON TAKIN IT TO DEALER IF IT GETS WORSE, JUST HATE TAKING IT IN AND IT SITS THERE FOR A WEEK.. IF ITS SIMPLE VACUUM LINE OR SUMTHIN EASY..WASNT THERE WHEN CAR WAS BRAND NEW..

Answer
Based on your description, I'd suspect that the vibration is either normal or that you have a problem with one of the engine/transmission mounts transmitting excessive vibration.  To determine whether it's normal, someone will need to feel the vibration and compare with another vehicle.  You can do this yourself.  Simply go to the dealer and ask them to let you sit in one of the new 2006 Elantras.  (Don't use a 2007; the car was redesigned, and there may be differences which would change the amount of transmitted vibration).
