Hyundai Repair: Fuel Filter, fuel pressure regulator, crankshaft sensor

Question
I have a 2004 Sonata with a 2.7 liter 16V engine...I have been having problems with the vehicle starting...It turns over but it doesnt seem to be getting any gas to fire up...It has happened once before and after sitting for a couple days it started up and has been running ok for a couple months now, but just quit starting again...Is the fuel filter on this model inside or outside of the fuel tank and what is the easiest way to replace the filter?

Answer
The filter is in the fuel tank on the fuel pump assembly.  There's an access panel in the trunk you can remove to obtain access to the fuel pump assembly in the tank.

But I doubt the fuel pump is your problem.  I'd suspect a crankshaft sensor or maybe a defective fuel pressure regulator.  If you have less than 60k miles, take it to the dealer and let them have a look at it.  Chances are it's a warrantable issue.
