Hyundai Repair: replace leaking water pump - hyundai accent 2001, hyundai accent 2001, timing belt tensioner

Question
Hi,
Could someone please advise how to replace the water pump on a hyundai accent 2001 and what other parts should be replaced/checked while the water pump is replaced.

Thank-you!

Answer
You'll need to remove the timing and drive belts to do this repair, so if they haven't been replaced recently, it'd be adviseable to replace them as well.  I've listed a step-by-step procedure for replacing the water pump below.  The specifics for removing the drive belts will vary depending on which engine you have.

1.  Remove the engine under cover.
2.  Remove the radiator cap.
3.  Drain the coolant from the radiator.
4.  Support the engine and remove the right side engine mount.
5.  Loosen the four 10mm water pump pulley bolts.
6.  Remove the alternator and power steering belts.
7.  Remove the four 10mm water pump pulley bolts and remove the pulleys.
8.  Remove the upper timing belt cover.
9.  Remove the right front wheel.
10.  Remove the right side engine splash shield.
11.  Release the tension from the a/c belt and remove the a/c belt.
12.  Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and remove the pulley.
13.  Remove the lower timing belt cover.
14.  Line up the timing marks.
15.  Loosen the two 12mm timing belt tensioner attaching bolts/nuts.
16.  Pry the tensioner back and clamp down with the frontmost 12mm bolt.
17.  Remove the timing belt.
18.  Remove the timing belt tensioner pulley.
19.  Remove the alternator top mounting bracket.
20.  Remove the water pump.
21.  Clean the remnants of the water pump gasket from the engine.
22.  Install the new water pump and gasket.
23.  Install the alternator top mounting bracket.
24.  Install the timing belt tensioner pulley, being sure to get the tensioner spring on both detents, and leaving the mounting bolts/nuts loose.
25.  Pry the tensioner back and clamp down with the frontmost 12mm bolt.
26.  Install the timing belt with all the slack on the tensioner side.
27.  Release the frontmost tensioner bolt, allowing the tensioner to apply tension, and tighten back down.
28.  Rotate the crankshaft clockwise two revolutions and check the timing marks.  If not properly aligned, remove the timing belt, align the marks, and go back to step 25.
29.  Loosen the frontmost tensioner pulley bolt to retension.
30.  Tighten the two tensioner pulley mounting bolts/nuts.
31.  Install the lower timing belt cover.
32.  Install the upper timing belt cover.
33.  Install the crankshaft pulley.
34.  Install the a/c belt and tension.
35.  Install the water pump pulleys.
36.  Install the p/s and alternator belts and tension.
37.  Tighten the water pump pulley bolts.
38.  Install the engine mount.
39.  Add 50/50 coolant mixture to the radiator.
40.  Start the engine and allow to run, topping off the radiator as necessary while the engine runs.  You should wait at least two fan cycles to ensure the air has bled from the system.  If the engine begins to overheat, turn off and wait 10 minutes, and then top off and restart.
