Hyundai Repair: sender unit for gas gauge, sonata 4, gas gauge

I have a 2000 Sonata ( 4 cyclinder 2.4 L engine I believe) Thanks for your previous help with my faulty gas gauge. My garage tells me that the gas tank has to be lowered to get at the sender unit inside the tank. I thought that I read somewhere that the sender unit can be accessed by taking out the back seat and unscrewing the access panel found underneath. Is this true?

You don't need to drop the tank.  In fact, you don't even need to pull the seat.  The access cover is in the front of the trunk, just behind the rear seat.  Simply lift up the mat and pry the cover off, and you're looking at the fuel pump module.  You'll still need to disconnect the wiring and lines and remove the assembly from the tank, however.  Once out, swap the old sender with the new one and reinstall.
