Hyundai Repair: rear window stoplight overheats, correct lamp, brake switch

Question
1996 Tiburon. Brake light in rear window over heats and smokes - melting the plastic . This may be from a stuck brake switch. Owner says she doesn't ride the brakes. What is the correct lamp and is this a common problem? Any advice will be appreciated - this is a strange one.

Answer
Since the Tiburon wasn't introduced until the 1997 model year, I'll presume you have a 1997 Tiburon.

You'll want to check for any poor contacts in the housing.  Depending on the condition of the lamp, you may need to purchase a new housing.

The bulb for this application is 1156.  The parts catalog also indicates that it should be a 27 Watt bulb.
