Hyundai Repair: oil filters, aftermarket filters, car 03

I WAS TOLD THAT I had to use, just Hyundai oil filters on my car  03 Elantra

You may use any oil filter on your car that you desire.  

But it's also the case that if you experience any problems due to any filter that's not a factory filter, any repairs necessary to correct those problems will not be covered by your warranty.  Hyundai actually has a TSB about some aftermarket filters leading to an engine knock.  I don't know which specific filters these are because they're not specified in the bulletin.  

For my car, I'd trust any name brand filter the same size and shape as the factory filter.  Whether you'd like to apply the same standard is up to you.  If you'd like the additional assurance that you're covered in the event something should go wrong with the filter, you should use only factory filters and change your oil and filter every 3,000 miles.
