Hyundai Repair: Hyundia Crank Position Sensor, dealer inventories, sonata 2

Question
Thanks for the response.  They may be in warehouses, but you are the first to know the part number.  This has really been a headache.  Yoou are right, it did damage from valves down.  This is our only holdup in the repairs, and the shop is about to give up.  Charlie

Question -
Hi,  The Belt broke on the 1998 Sonata, and took out the craknshaft position sensor, and the metal plate behind it.  I can find the sensor, but not the plate.  Do you know of anyone who has a bunch of Sonata 2.0L engines willing to part with the plate, or even the part number and a source for a new on?

Charlie

Answer -
The plate is part # 23355-55540.  I'm incredibly surprised that you cannot find one.  Hyundai has them in all of their warehouses in this country.  And they're in dealer inventories in 15 states.

But this may be the smallest of your problems.  On this engine, it's very likely you've done internal engine damage.

Answer
Any Hyundai dealer should have been able to get the part number for this plate.  It's shown in the parts catalog with the balancer belt train.  If the repair shop contacted (or was) a Hyundai dealer, then I suspect the problem was that the parts person couldn't find it in the catalog and wouldn't call Hyundai's parts assistance line to get some.
