Hyundai Repair: 99 Hyundai Elantra electrical, hyundai elantra, double sided tape

Question
Hello, I have a 99 Elantra. I'm not sure what engine I have but if it helps, I don't have power windows or doorlocks.  I've noticed that the backlight behind my air conditioner/heater controls are either very dim or completely out.  Also, the clock in my car (located by the speedometer) has completely shut off.  What is wrong with my car and how can I go about fixing this?  Thanks so much!  -Sam

Answer
If the heater control backlighting is out, but the other dash backlighting is still working, then you should expect that the bulbs in the heater control are out.  You'll need to remove the cables from the heater box and remove the center facia from the dash to access the heater control bulbs.

As for the clock, check your fuses.  If all the fuses are okay, you should expect that your clock has died.  If you try to replace with a factory clock, it'll require removing and disassembling the instrument cluster.  You should also expect that a factory clock will be expensive.  If you need to have a clock, you might want to purchase a small l.e.d. clock and stick onto the dash with double-sided tape.
