Hyundai Repair: Transmission, hyundai accents, transmission control module

Question
I have a 2001 Hyundai Accents GS.My problem with it when I drve the first two gears work fine but then jerks when it starts to go to the next ones at which point the rpms jump to 5,000.Then once I'm at a stop light it needs some time to get up to speed. I took it to a mechanic and he told me it was the transmission fluid pump that neede to be replced and would cost 1,500.

Answer
The transmission pump is a plausible explanation, but depending on your local pricing, you may be able to get an entire factory remanufactured transmission for that price or something close to it.

You'll also want to verify that the transmission control module (TCM) was checked for trouble codes.  If not, that should be done.  Depending on the trouble code(s), the pump may no longer be a plausible cause.
