Hyundai Repair: 03 Elantra Preventative Maintenance--fuel service, air filter oil, fuel service

Question
I have an 03 elantra with almost 80,000 miles on it. I'm not sure if the 60,000 mile service was done in full, with all the recommended things. I am trying to decide what has to be serviced now: spark plugs replaced, automatic trans flush, air filter, oil change, PCV valve, rotate and balance tires...anything else? What is part of a fuel service? We recently got the EFI cleaned...do we need to change the fuel filter?

Also, if service is not performed at a dealer, does that mean the warantee is voided? Thanks.

Answer
Most of the things you mention are recommended at 60k or some other interval which would make them due again at 60k.  But the recommendation for the transmission fluid is 105k.  It won't hurt to flush it, and I don't personally believe 30k is a bad interval for flushing or draining/filling the transmission, but it isn't required maintenance at this time unless the fluid is in poor condition.  You should also look into servicing the coolant.  The required maintenance for coolant is every 2 years or 30k miles.  You should also replace the timing belt if it hasn't yet been done.

I believe the fuel filter is now recommended at 105k miles.  Check your owner's manual to be sure.

The term "fuel service" has no particular meaning.  You'll need to check with the shop that recommended this to see what it specifically includes.

You may have the work performed anywhere you choose, but the work must meet Hyundai's requirements.  For the most part, this means that you'll need to use the proper transmission fluid.  Additionally, if you replace the timing belt with a factory belt, the warranty on the timing belt will continue to 100k (or the second 4 year/60k interval, whichever comes first), presuming you're the original owner of the vehicle.  If you've still got the original timing belt on the car, it's not currently covered (unless the car is registered in California) because you've already exceeded the recommended maintenance interval on the timing belt.
