Hyundai Repair: Santa Fe, Transmission, hyundai santa fe, shaft speed

Question
My daughter has a 2001 Hyundai, Santa Fe, w/2.4L. It has 109,500 miles. Recently she complained it had "bucked" and stalled. I read the code and found P0715, Input Shaft Speed Sensor Circuit. Can you tell me what this problem might be and if the sensor needs to be replaced, where is it located? Thank you, Gary.

Answer
Every time I've seen the P0715 code, the problem has been the input speed sensor itself.  It's located on the top of the transmission, partially under the shift cable bracket where it bolts to the top of the transmission.

To replace the sensor, you'll need to remove the air box and unbolt the shift cable bracket from the transmission.  Clean the area around the sensor (to prevent debris from dropping into the transmission), remove the 10mm bolt holding it in, and pull the sensor out and unplug it.  Install the new sensor, attach with the 10mm bolt, and plug it in.  Then just reassemble everything else you took apart.
