Hyundai Repair: hyundai tiburon transmision problem, throttle position sensor, transmission control module

Question

Followup To
code says throttle position sensor-but why would that have anything to do with my transmission not shifting right?
Question -
My daughters 2003 tiburon - engine light is on and the transmission shifts hard and irratic. It has the 4 cylinder motor with automatic transmission. It has 60,000 miles.

Answer -
Hi, bill.  The first thing to do is to check the engine and transmission computers to see what the stored trouble codes are.  This will provide great insight into the nature of the problem.  The fact that the check engine lamp is on indicates that there are codes there to be retrieved.

Unfortunately, without the codes, it's difficult to provide any direction.  Just about any transmission sensor issue will make it shift hard or erratically.

Answer
The throttle position sensor tells your TCM (transmission control module) how far the throttle is depressed.  It uses this input to help decide when to shift and how much to reduce the line pressure during shifting.

You should replace the throttle position sensor first, then see if you have any additional transmission problems.
