Hyundai Repair: 1996 Hyundai Accent stuck in gear., transmission control module, hyundai accent

Question
I have a 1996 Hyundai Accent and car starts fine, however when I begin to drive the car starts out slow with barely any power.  After going for a while the car picks up speed and would not change gears.  What do you think is the problem.

Answer
Presuming you have an automatic transmission, it sounds like you have some sort of transmission control issue.  If the TCM (transmission control module) detects a problem, it may put the transmission in failsafe (third gear only).  The first step is to check and see what trouble codes are stored.  That will give you an idea of what the problem may be.
