Hyundai Repair: my car doesnt go when i step on the gas(2001 hyundai sonata), transmission control module, hyundai sonata

the "check engine light" comes on my car, and when i come to a stop and step on the gas to go again, it hesitates to go, it takes a second or two to get going.  what do you think the problem is? my car is a 2001 hyundai sonata GLS

The codes stored in your engine and transmission computer will be key in determing what sort of problem you have.  The fact that the Check Engine lamp is illuminated means the ECM (Engine Control Module) has detected a problem or the TCM (Transmission Control Module) has requested the ECM to turn on the check engine lamp.  

Presuming you don't have a tool capable of reading the trouble codes, you'll need to take the car somewhere that can do this.  Places like AutoZone have advertised they'll do this for free, but they sometimes seem to not be able to read TCM codes.
