Hyundai Repair: Instrument Panel Light- 97 Tiburon, interior lamps, fuse box

Question
On my 97 Tiburon, the instrument panel light, door chimes, and clock in center console were all out.  I checked accessory fuse box and one of the fuses was blown.  I replaced it and the door chimes and clock started working, but the instrument panel light still does not work.  Could it be another fuse or do I need to replace the light.  If the light needs to be replaced, could you please explain how.  Thanks.

Answer
Check your exterior lamps.  If the parking lamps on one side of the vehicle are out, you likely have a blown tail lamp fuse.  The interior lamps run off one of the tail lamp fuses.

If that fuse is okay, you should next check the rheostat (dimmer switch).  One wire should always have power.  One should always have ground.  And the third should have variable power output depending on the position of the rheostat knob.

There are numerous lamps lighting up the components in the dash.  If all are out, the problem is pretty much guaranteed to be the tail lamp fuse or the rheostat.  If it's the fuse, you may need to look deeper to find the cause of the fuse blowing.
