Hyundai Repair: Belts, alternator belt, proper tension

Question
I have a 2001 Elantra GLS.  Do they have a serpentine belt?  One belt that pulls everything?  When running my ac, I'm hearing lots of noise like a belt that is loose or something.  Help?!?!?

Answer
The 2001 Elantra has three belts-- one for the A/C, one for the alternator and water pump, and one that drives the power steering pump off the water pump.

Check your a/c belt and especially the alternator belt for proper tension.  I suspect your alternator belt may be a little loose.  It needs to be quite tight to not slip and squeal.  Running the a/c causes a significant additional electrical load, and this can be enough to make the alternator belt slip.
