Hyundai Repair: re: speed sensor, vehicle speed sensor, hyundai vehicles

Question
I have the 6 cyl engine.  The abs light comes on for self test and remains off when the car is running.  What else should I be looking for?  I removed the sensor and cleaned it but I still get the same code.  All the wires look ok too.  Thanks

Answer
If the ABS lamp doesn't come on when you drive, then you're going to have to do some electrical testing to see whether the issue is in a module or elsewhere.  You'll need to see the schematics to know what you're testing.  For this, I recommend getting a free account at www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer).  Once you are logged in, you can access service information about all U.S. Hyundai vehicles.  Schematics are under the ETM (
Electrical Troubleshooting Manual) tab.

If you go to the fuel system schematic, you'll see that the ECM gets the vehicle speed sensor signal from the ABS module.  You'll need to check the white wire (Pin #3, connector C104 at ABS module; Pin #22, connector C94-4 at ECM) for an open circuit or short to ground.  If the wire tests okay, then you've got either a defective ECM or a defective ABS module.
