Hyundai Repair: 97 hyundai tiburon shifting issues, transmission control module, hyundai tiburon

Question
Car has an AT.  Sometimes during driving the car becomes stuck in a gear.  Frequently the car either operates in the 1 & 3 gears or 2 & 4 gears.  It will rev up to almost 5k and then skip a gear.  I've tried turning OD on and off, putting it into neutral while coasting and back into drive, but often the only thing that resolves the problem is to park the car and restart it, which works less than 50% of the time.  Most commonly the car only uses 2nd and 4th gear.  A technician diagnosed it as the speed sensor, which has two parts on this model.  One part has been replaced repeatedly, while the other has not.  Do you agree with this opinion or have any other ideas?

Answer
There's not enough information here for me to know whether this vehicle was previously diagnosed and repaired logically.  Furthermore, the input and output speed sensors come together on this transmission, so it'd be impossible to replace just one under normal circumstances.  My gut feeling is that you probably have a serious transmission issue, but again, there's not enough here for me to feel confident about this.  Here's what I'd like to know additionally, if you can provide it:

1.  What transmission repairs have been made previously, and when?  What were the diagnostic trouble codes and symptoms on each repair?

2.  Has someone checked your TCM (transmission control module) for codes?  Based on the symptoms, some should be stored.  If you can, tell me what they are.

3.  Is the fluid full and in good condition?
