Hyundai Repair: 2004 Sonata V6, technical service bulletins, tps sensors

Question
On cruise I get an intermittent lurch or "stumble". It doesn' happen all the time, can be of varying intensity, at full intensity it feels like you've hit something in the road.  Have had it in for checking and they can't find anything wrong and it, of course, doesn't happen when they test drive it.  Have already had MAF and TPS sensors replaced because of a different problem.  My husband's car has now started to do the same thing, he owns one too. 56,000 km on it.

Answer
Hi, Sherry.  I may have just the answer you need.  There's a technical service bulletin (number 04-36-015) to reprogram the ECM (Engine Control Module) on U.S. models to eliminate an "intermittent hesitation."  This has been described by my classroom instructors just as you describe-- "feels like you've hit something in the road."

What I don't know is whether this reprogramming applies or can be done in other countries-- I presume you're not in the US since you report km, not miles.  I'd recommend doing the following:

1.  Get a free account at www.hmaservice.com (requires Internet Explorer).  This will allow you to access the technical service bulletins.  Print out this bulletin.
2.  Take the bulletin to your local dealer and ask if they have something similar they can do.  If they're not in the U.S., the service remedies they have may be different.
3.  If they do, ask if they'd be willing to do it for you.
4.  Keep an open mind.  It's possible that you've got an entirely different issue.  A non-U.S. car may not even have the same programming error to begin with.
