Hyundai Repair: 2001 Hyundai Accent, hyundai accent, scan tool

Question
My husband has a 2001 Hyundai Accent with about 150,000 miles.  When he first got it (bought it new) the engine check light would come on.  He had it back at the dealer about three times and they said it was basically nothing and they fixed it.  Now, it's out of warranty and the light is on and stays on and has been on forever.  Car runs fine.  But now it's time to inspect it and it can't pass until they put it on the scanner.  I'm concerned as to what the scanner will say and how much it will cost us to get it fixed.  What could this be?

Answer
the only way to reset the check eng light is to have someone with a scan tool to run an see what codes there are in the computer so have that done an then reset the system an see what happen with out knowing the codes i cant say whats wrong but its the best way to reset it.
