Isuzu Repair: 96 Rodeo Engine Will Not Start, haynes repair manual, vacuum test

Question
QUESTION: Hello,

While diving on an interstate highway, cruising @ about 65 MPH, the engine stopped dead. The Engine will not start. I have had this car since 98' and have fixed 90% of problems myself. In 2005 alot of things needed changing. I changed the : alternator, starter, EGR valve, Fuel sending unit, fuel pump, fuel filter. I can hear my fuel pump starting when the key is turned on. The starter has no trouble turning the engine. Is this a timing belt issue? The car will be towed tomorrow, so I can't get my hands dirty yet. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,
Sweet Tooth

ANSWER: So if we know it is getting spark and fuel? Then it would be a timing issue Sweet tooth. Is it getting spark and fuel? If not then we need to cancel out some possibilities okay? Sorry for the delay as well.

QUESTION: I took the timing belt cover off to check the belt and all was fine although it does need to be changed. I have dug in and using a Haynes repair manual, I found that it was the fuel pump not turning on. It wouldn't turn on with the key on or when trying to start. Also there was no pressure or fuel at the test nozzle on the engine.I tested voltage and it was there so I replaced the fuel pump(Only 3 years old from the dealer). It took about 20 tries for it to start but it finally did. I would turn it off then start it again successfully .

Now I have a hard start problem. It seems sometimes when it sits for a while it won't start for me. Pressure is there at the nozzle(didn't do a vacuum test yet). After many tries then it just starts. Maybe I have a fuel system pressure problem or electrical now? I am going to test for spark during hard starting.

Answer
Well no offense but the fuel pump needs to be installed with 100% accuracy Sweet tooth. The most common problem is  that they don't seal correctly when reinstalled and that allows air into the tank which results in a hard start problem. It happens 9 out of 10 times so don't feel bad. I have even done it before! Any more questions please let me know as well.
