Isuzu Repair: 1999 isuzu trooper intake manifold gasket, intake manifold gasket, engine wiring harness

Question
QUESTION: My mechanic has been advised by the dealer that if he replaces the intake manifold gasket it is very likely that he will break the engine wiring harness and it will need replacing at a cost of $500.  Is this a common problem?

ANSWER: NO it is not. I would recommend taking it to a better qualified mechanic. I installed my intake gaskets myself on the same model and year as yours and it was not a problem at all. It only cost me about 250 dollars by my own time and labor. DO NOT LISTEN TO THE DEALER!!! take it somewhere else.

QUESTION: Is it possible to just seal the gasket with a metal sealing compound?, if I can access the leak.
Also, My mechanic was quoting the repair as a 4/5 hour job at @ $500. Parts were only available at dealer. And is this a do it yourself job for the slightly mechanically inclined?

Answer
I would highly, highly recommend The gaskets Robert, trust me, i have seen dozens and dozens of cars and Isuzu's are not a car to skimp on. If their is a leak in your intake gasket at all it would cause a vacuum leak and rough idling, stalling and all other fun stuff. The price sounds about right but I would find another mechanic and find the parts yourself. Trust me, I used to own a 1999 Isuzu lse 3.2 liter. I had the same problem, The gaskets are kind of pricy tho huh?
