Isuzu Repair: neutral safety switch, isuzu rodeo, battery cables

Question
my daughter has a 1998 Isuzu Rodeo. Lately she is having a problem starting it.  When you turn the switch nothing. You sometimes can play with the shifter or put it in neutral and it will crank.  It seem to be slowly getting worse.  We wondered if it could be the neutral safety switch.  I called Advanced Auto to check the price on one and they said $154. I almost died.  We bought one for our Chevrolet years ago and paid $10  Please let me know what you think. I hate to pay that much for one and it not fix it.  She is 16 and cant afford alot.

Thanks
Marlene

Answer
Hello Marlene, start with making sure your ignition switch isn't bad, then check your battery cables to make sure they aren't stiff and corroded. Then check the battery, Your no start condition could be caused by a bad connnection on your starting circuit somewhere. Also check your main wiring harness ground for any loose connection/s ok? Please let me know if it does or doesn't work, I dont want you to have to spend unecessary money.
